Prospect Hospice: Making each day count Prospect Hospice

Prospect Nurse Specialists

There are 10 Nurse Specialists employed by Prospect Hospice. They work with patients and families in their own homes and in Care Homes.

What do the Nurse Specialists do?

Advising and supporting patients and their families

When a patient is referred to Prospect Hospice, a Prospect Nurse Specialist will telephone to make an appointment to visit them at home. Together, the nurse, the patient and, if they wish, the people closest to them, will agree a plan of care and arrange future visits.

The nurse can help patients and families with:

  • Managing difficult symptoms
  • Finding out more about their condition
  • Answering questions about treatment and care
  • Exploring hopes and fears
  • Accessing other Prospect Hospice services

Working with other healthcare professionals

Our Prospect Nurse Specialists work very closely with the patient's Primary Healthcare Team. They will speak to their patient's GP, District Nurse and Hospital Team on a regular basis, to ensure that the patient receives consistent and co-ordinated care.

The Prospect Nurse Specialists' knowledge and experience make them a valuable resource for local healthcare professionals needing palliative care advice.
