Prospect Hospice: Making each day count Prospect Hospice

In-patient care

Our In-patient Unit offers patients short term admission for assessment, symptom control, respite and end of life care in a comfortable and supportive environment.

What is the Hospice like?

Prospect Hospice has been designed and developed to support the needs of our patients and their families.  Our patient bedrooms are all pleasant, comfortable and welcoming with a mixture of single and four bedded rooms.  Each bedroom opens onto a quiet terraced area overlooking our beautiful landscaped gardens and surrounding countryside.

Patients and families are able to enjoy a range of facilities including:

  • A garden room, with entertainment facilities
  • A sensory room
  • A well-being room which includes hairdressing facilities
  • A chapel
  • Televisions and laptop computers with internet access are available for use at the bedside.

How might a stay on the In-patient Unit help?

Patients can be admitted to the In-patient Unit for a variety of reasons, including:

  • Assessment
  • Pain and symptom relief
  • Respite care
  • End-of-life care

Each person we meet is different and their care and support is tailor made to reflect their individual needs.  The multi-professional team, including doctors and nurses will meet regularly with the patient and their family to explore those issues which are most important to them.

For those patients who wish to return home, we will be working alongside them to achieve this.

For Barbara, living with a growing sense of loss brought with it sadness but also opportunities. In this audio recording, she shares her personal journey and experience of her care at Prospect Hospice with us.

How are patients referred for in-patient care?

Patients are usually referred to the In-patient Unit by their Prospect Nurse Specialist, their GP or their hospital doctor or nurse.
